I try to tell myself that it’s all going to be okay. Summer 2015 will be over and I’ll welcome Fall 2015 & all of its apples, pumpkins, and baking spices with open arms. But I know this is a lie. Damn you seasons! I just want to drink cherry limeade all year long—IS THAT SO MUCH TO ASK!?

For me, there’s truly nothing more quintessentially summer than cherry limeade. Sonic cherry limeades to be exact. Pull up, windows down, “large cherry limeade and some tater tots. please & thank you!!!”.
And truly, the only thing better than a Sonic cherry limeade is a homemade cherry limeade. Oh yes—let’s do this! Replace the Sprite with fresh lime juice!
Replace the questionable squirty syrup with homemade cherry simple syrup made with the most beautiful in-season cherries!
And add sparkling water! That’s it! It’s SO good. Sweet, tangy, & sparkly! Ugh, ridiculously refreshing. Thank you summer for….well EVERYTHING (you’re the best)…but also for making me so freakin’ hot that I have to gulp ridiculous amounts of this fabulous cherry limeade to cool down. 
Lastly, if you want to get a little bit bonkers, just add vodka. Oh no you didn’t!!
Cherry Limeade

  1. 1 cup sugar
  2. 1 cup water
  3. 10 fresh cherries, pitted, cut in half
  4. 1 cup fresh lime juice
  5. 1 cup sparkling water
  1. First, make the simple syrup. In a small saucepan, add the water, sugar, and cherries over medium heat. Once the mixture starts to heat up, use a potato masher to mash the cherries. Continue to mash until the mixture is a bright red and the sugar has dissolved. Remove from the heat, set aside with a lid on to cool.
  2. Once the simple syrup has cooled, use a fine mesh strainer to strain the syrup into a pitcher. Add the lime juice and sparkling water to the pitcher. Stir until combined. Serve over ice. Enjoy!
  1. If you like your limeade less sweet, reduce the sugar and water to 3/4 cup. Alternatively, increase to 1 1/4 cup of lime juice and 1 1/2 cup of sparkling water.
